US BMW i3 seat occupancy sensor emulator + seatbelt emulator - OCS Tester
Description
PRODUCT
OCS Series Diagnostic Tester - seat occupancy sensor emulator and seatbelt emulator for BMW i3, USA VERSION.
This emulator doesn't work on European version BMW.
Testers (emulators) are ended with terminals (pins).
ITEM DESCRIPTION
The device is manufactured in the EU and has been thoroughly tested on US version i3, years of issue 2015 and 2017.
The OCS series tester is an easy-to-connect yet advanced diagnostic tool designed to detect faults in the SRS system.
When connected to the vehicle's wiring, it emulates the operation of a functioning seat occupancy sensor and sends a signal to the airbag control unit indicating that an adult is seated. In the version with the seat belt buckle tester, the airbag control unit receives information that the seatbelt is fastened.
LED indicators provide visual confirmation of proper operation.
It features a simple design and straightforward installation. However, for safety reasons, installation should be performed by a qualified professional with knowledge of SRS systems.
INSTALLATION
Below is a simplified installation procedure (a detailed manual with a full device description - link below):
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Under the passenger seat, locate the 4-pin mat plug with 3 wires:
– white
– brown with a white stripe
– red with an orange stripe.
It is placed in a big yellow connector which needs to be opened.
3. Disconnect the seat occupancy sensor plug and replace the mat wires with the emulator wires in the plug as shown in the scheme below:
4. Connect the seat belt buckle emulator - in the yellow connector under the passenger side seat find the plug of the seatbelt buckle – in the large yellow connector it is a white plug with wires:
– purple
– orange-black.
Disconnect the plug and replace seatbelt buckle wires with the seatbelt emulator wires - purple for black and orange-black for red.
5. Insert all plugs into the yellow connector in the same order as it was before and close the connector.
6. Clear the error using appropriate diagnostic software (the light will disappear if it was on due to a damaged seat mat).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. A reliable diagnostic tool (an external device connected via OBD2) is essential for identifying faults.
2. The tester is intended for diagnosing issues within the SRS system. By emulating the function of a working seat occupancy sensor and seat belt buckle, it helps confirm or rule out a fault in the corresponding component.
3. If the SRS fault related to the seat occupancy sensor cannot be cleared after connecting the tester, this indicates that the tester has fulfilled its purpose — it confirms that the issue lies within the SRS system itself. This suggests the original seat occupancy sensor is likely functioning correctly, and the root cause may be found in the vehicle’s wiring or the airbag control unit.
4. The tester (emulator) is not an original vehicle component and is not a certified replacement for the factory-installed seat occupancy sensor. It does not have road-use homologation.
5. All work involving the SRS system should be carried out by a qualified professional with expertise in SRS systems.
