If the SRS warning light on your car is on, it means that one or more elements of SRS system malfunctioned.
SRS (Supplementary Restrain System) is a supplementary system to assure a safety of passengers. The system contains of about 20 elements, that can be divided into 3 groups:
• crash sensors: triggered if a collision occurs;
• airbag control unit: receives information from the crash sensors, calculates severity of the impact and deploys elements of the safety system accordingly;
• actuators - among them:
- airbags,
- seat belt pre-tensioners,
- seat occupancy sensor, and many others.
The fact that the SRS is lit on is not enough to diagnose a faulty seat occupancy sensor. To find out the cause, you need to check the car with a professional diagnostic software.
ATTENTION! Free and cheap diagnostic softwares might falsely indicate malfunctions of SRS elements.
ATTENTION! An unqualified mechanic, even using a professional software, may incorrectly diagnose a car with a false error.
